Access to NDIS for Offenders with Intellectual Disabilities

In response to the comments in the press and the Minister recently,  ASID wrote to Minister Shorten. In the letter we called for reconsideration of the discriminatory position that was being discussed towards offenders with intellectual disabilities. It had been suggested they should not be eligible for support from the NDIS. ASID said that offenders with intellectual disabilities should have access to the NDIS and were a group of people who had often experienced significant and multiple disadvantages throughout their lives. [see letter]. We also talked to Inclusion Australia who have sent a letter to the Minister about this issue.
