About Dr Hemant Thakkar

Hemant is a registered social worker with over three decades of experience in the disability sector and has worked in the areas of special education, consumer rights, systemic advocacy, quality and risk management, disability service provision and needs assessment and service coordination. Hemant’s doctoral thesis titled: ‘When I am no longer alive’ explored the wishes, worries and the support needs of the parents concerning long-term future of their disabled adult children with high and complex needs. Hemant’s wider sector engagement includes: Chair, Aotearoa New Zealand division of ASID; Assessor, Social Worker Registration Board; and Member, Aotearoa New Zealand Adult Safeguarding Alliance amongst others.
