Hybrid event
What is this discussion about?
This is a Hybrid Event, which means that some people will be online and some people will be in the room at the venue.
People with intellectual disability are working as researchers in more and more research projects. Doing research together means that we need to work inclusively so everyone is part of the research team. This changes research in some important ways.
- It helps us to focus on things that are important to people’s lives
- It means we are talking with people with intellectual disability, not about them
- It makes research more accessible to people who like information in easy read or video
First there will be a presentation online. It will be a webinar linking SA and NSW. We will watch it online together at the venue.
The presentation is called: Everyday steps for working well together: inclusive research practice in a large research project.
In this presentation, the team will talk about how they work in a large research project as inclusive researchers. They will talk about why their research needs people with intellectual disability involved as co-researchers to succeed. The team will talk about how they help each other to learn well, their different jobs in the research, work they have done to build their team, and their plans for their project.
After the presentation, the groups will split up in their own states and areas. In our groups, we will talk about our ideas. We will talk about how inclusive research can help in our everyday work.
